Country Living Makeover Takeover: Farmhouse Remodel - Hudson, OH
Master Bedroom, Master Bath, Kitchen, Family Room, Laundry Room, & Mud Room Remodel
This is an 1825 farmhouse in Hudson, Ohio located in the historical Western Reserve section of Ohio.
We worked with the homeowners and Country Living Magazine to bring a fresh look to an historical home. The design goals for this historical home were to update the floor plan to modern living to correct design deficiencies. The challenge was to make all the renovations while maintaining the historic feel.
All mechanicals were updated and an air conditioning system was added to the home. The systems were hidden in cavities and columns to preserve the integrity of the home.
Kitchen: Our challenge was to convert this winding, inefficient kitchen space. Plus, an adjacent bathroom was in plain view while eating. To eliminate the unappealing view, we traded spaces—the bathroom adjacent to the kitchen became the laundry room and vice versa. To achieve an efficient space with an open flow, we added a new island and L-shaped counter on existing 1850's era wood flooring.
Bathroom & Master bedroom: Our challenge was to take existing closets and create a new master bathroom. Note the tile floor resembles wood flooring that is throughout the home. The door and trim were all custom made to match the existing materials in the home, too.
Family Room: a 1950s addition between the house and garage was brightened with the addition of windows and made more functional with the construction of a bench with a shelf and hooks above to serve as a mini-mudroom.
Before: Kitchen RenovationChallenge: Winding, inefficient galley kitchen, low counter tops & small sink. Plus, an adjacent bathroom was in plain view while eating. |
